I Want My Mommy

By Chris Fernandez | October 19th, 2008 | (6) comments »

I was watching that DirecTV (NASDAQ: DTV) commercial the other day with the little girl from the 1982 movie Poltergeist, and was reminded of a part in the movie when she was trapped inside the nether world of ghosts that were terrorizing her family’s home, and would cry out: “mommy…..” in a haunting and echoing tone.

It was pretty scary actually.

Not unlike the turmoil in the markets in the last year, especially in the last month or so, that has driven a lot of traders and regular folks watching their life savings severely decline in value, call out at night for their mommies…

I guess in retrospect, I picked the perfect time to start a stock website devoted to the most volatile and unpredictable stocks available on Earth right?

I mean, when things go bad, small-cap and micro-cap stocks go down far more than other performers, but the same holds true on the up side.

This begs the question: What should one do with their money now?

I’ll tell you what you should do with your money!

Grab every cent you can find, sell every piece of junk you have in your house, and find any cash that you’ve been saving for a rainy day, and put it to work in the market RIGHT NOW!

The Double Thesis

By Chris Fernandez | February 21st, 2008 | (6) comments »

When investing and trying to produce sizable gains that beat the market, there are no hard and fast rules that I play by. In fact, I don’t care where I have to look to make us money.

However, there are particular doctrines and methodologies that I adhere to that produce the most consistency and direction for my investments.

Some of these rules and methodologies that comprise my “Secret Sauce” I won’t share publicly, but others I will, as I feel it gives you a better idea of why and how I pick the stocks that I pick and what I look for in the companies that I want to make a long term commitment to.

One of these rules is what I like to call: The Double Thesis

The basic tenet of this rule is to ask myself one simple question when analyzing a company that appeals to me:

“Can this stock double in one year?” Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Freaking Out

By Chris Fernandez | February 10th, 2008 | (9) comments »

For no good reason our stocks are getting hammered…I can’t take this anymore, I’m starting to panic…

Ok, sorry about that, just wanted to get your attention.

There’s been no panic on my side of the coin with the PeakStocks.com recommendations, but I can see from the comments and hesitation that I am reading out there, that some of you may be.

So to allay any fears, concerns or questions, I decided to post a quick update on not only the philosophy of PeakStocks.com, but some direct commentary on the stocks in the portfolio. Read the rest of this entry »

The Markets Are Crashing!

By Chris Fernandez | January 5th, 2008 | (1) comment »

I don’t know about you, but I get excited when I see a lot of red on my computer screen in the morning.

You know, red because most of the stocks I watch or own are trading lower?

It’s almost like the smell of fresh coffee being roasted and waking you from a sound sleep in a pleasant and harmonious manner…

Maybe I just wake up on a different side of the bed than most people…but I digress. Read the rest of this entry »

What the Heck Does the “Buy/Sell Around” Price Mean?

By Chris Fernandez | October 24th, 2007 | (0) comments »

It occurred to me that I needed to further explain what I mean by the term “buy around” or “sell around” when recommending that you purchase shares of a PeakStocks.com portfolio recommendation, or when selling one. Read the rest of this entry »

Fire Sale Friday! It’s About Time

By Chris Fernandez | October 20th, 2007 | (0) comments »

Well, today the markets gave us a much needed breather…well a breather for those who wanted to buy stocks, and a down day for those who only want to watch what they already own rise.

So what caused today’s mini-correction? Here was a headline that I read that tried to explain it taken from CNNMoney.com:

“Brutal sell-off on Wall Street

Dow down almost 367 points, its third worst day of the year, on fears about credit and housing sector, earnings, record-high oil prices, slide in dollar, what the Fed will do next.”

Uh, say again? You mean today everyone woke up, and said, you know, I think I’m selling my stocks because well, earnings are bad, the housing stuff is really bumming me out, I just checked out oil prices and you know, they are higher today than yesterday, which is starting to freak me out, and even though the dollar has been declining for several months precipitously, TODAY it really means something, and to top it all off, what the heck will the Fed do next…you know what, I need to sell some stocks!

Ah, so THIS is why the market sold off today. Read the rest of this entry »

I can’t take all this volatility! Relax, it’s just a normal part of investing

By Chris Fernandez | October 19th, 2007 | (0) comments »

I wanted to touch a little bit more on the topic of volatility.

On my Investing Style page I go over some of the risks and potential pitfalls of not just investing in the overall market, but specifically with micro-cap and small-cap stocks in which this site will specialize in.

I wanted to take this discussion one step further by analyzing our first pick for our portfolio, AAR Corp (NYSE: AIR), an its volatility as a prime example of exactly what I am talking about, and how you can deal with the potential fear, or frustration that comes with it.
